World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2025

World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2025

The World Day for Safety and Health at Work is an annual international campaign which aims to raise awareness of and promote safe, healthy, and decent work around the world.

Held on the 28th April, the initiative was launched in 2003 by the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

Each year the ILO chooses a specific focus for the day and this year it is "Revolutionizing health and safety: the role of AI and digitalization at work".

This theme will explore the multitude of new technologies currently being developed and launched, from an occupational health and safety viewpoint.

These technologies include:

  • Advanced robots
  • Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning
  • Exoskeletons
  • Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)
  • Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Virtual and Augmented Reality

Whilst some of these technologies may seem far removed from your own day-to-day working life, you may be surprised at how AI and digitalisation can impact you.

New work procedures, such as the automation of tasks, data analysis, and smart digital systems, together with new types of working, including digital platform work and remote work/hybrid work/telework, could all influence your own working practices.

The ILO plan to produce a report, as well as other promotional materials, examining these critical issues and looking at how the digital transformation of work may support safe and healthy working environments.

The aim of this report and supporting material is to help you promote a healthier, safer working environment, as well as being more aware of your own health and safety in the workplace.
